Hello everyone, we're excited to invite you to our OWASP Chapter meeting #65! Our Chapter serves central Germany, particularly within the Rhine-Main (Hesse) region, as a platform to discuss and share information and application security topics. Anyone who is interested and enthusiastic about application security or security in general is welcome. All meetings are free and open. You do not have to be an OWASP member.

1. Talk: Data Centricity for Cloud and Application Security
Prof. Dr. Igor Podebrad, Director CISO Office, Google Cloud
Igor's talk will demystify data-centricity as a key driver for robust application and cloud security. He'll contrast the shift to data-centricity focus how it underpins cloud, AI and supports sound risk decisions. He will also discuss how this shift is reshaping security and resilience in for digital transformation. Igor is currently a Director at Google Cloud's Office of the CISO and a former Group CISO at Commerzbank AG. He holds a PhD in Medical Care Logistics from the University of Berlin.
2. Talk: Securing GenAI Applications on Cloud: Three pronged approach
Hari Hayagreevan - Senior Cloud Security Architect, IBM
The convergence of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) with cybersecurity introduces a spectrum of challenges and prospects. To embrace Gen AI extensively within enterprise contexts, it's imperative for these AI systems to be devoid of vulnerabilities in their application and infrastructure. This necessitates a holistic approach to securing Gen AI platforms. In this session, Hari will take you through the different viewpoints, offering insights from an Enterprise Security Architect’s perspective, with practical enterprise scenarios. Hari is Enterprise Security Architect and currently is the Technical Leader for IBM Consulting’s GenAI Security practice in DACH. He started his career as Cybersecurity incident responder (SOC Analyst) 18 years ago and now advises Enterprise CISOs and Security Architecture teams on adopting security principles for preventing cyber attacks.

Demokratisierung großer Sprachmodelle (LLMs)
Generative AI ist in aller Munde. Begeisterte Lobeshymnen auf das im November 2022 erschienene ChatGPT (175 Milliarden trainierbare Parameter) von OpenAI durch die ersten Anwender mündeten schnell in Projektionen zu Zuwächsen an Produktivität für die Unternehmen und die Weltwirtschaft durch einschlägige Analysten. Auch die Börse spielt verrückt und die Gewinne und Verluste einschlägiger Hauptdarsteller liegen tageweise schon mal bei zweistelligen Prozenten.
Der Vortrag ist dreiteilig angelegt. Im ersten Teil werden wir uns die Entwicklung im letzten Jahr getrieben durch die Architekturstile Attention und Diffusion mit der zunehmenden Verlagerung auf kleinere und offenere Modelle anschauen.
Im zweiten Teil werden wir genauer nachrechnen, wo eigentlich die Parameter in Transformer-Architekturen (Attention) stecken und was das für die Auslegung von Anzahlen und Größen von CPUs und GPUs bei Training und Inferenz bedeutet.
Im dritten Teil werden wir die technologische Entwicklung bei Grafikkarten – oder allgemeiner Beschleunigern – nachzeichnen, beim Platzhirsch NVIDIA (insbesondere auch Blackwell der aktuellen GTC 2024), aber auch bei AMD und bei großen Cloud-Providern. Und im vierten Teil wird in einer kleinen Praxisdemo gezeigt, wie Demokratisierung durch kleinere und offenere Modelle die Möglichkeiten von Generative AI einfacher, schneller und breiter verfügbar macht.
Lothar Wieske arbeitet als Architect mit vielen Technologien rund um Digitalisierung. Bis 2009 arbeitete er in Leuchttürmen wie einer Digitalen Radiologie, einer Wertpapierverwaltung sowie für Miles-and-More u.a. bei IBM, Microsoft und Sun Microsystems. Im Innovationsmanagement arbeitete er ab 2009 praktisch mit Cloud und Analytics. Mit den Jahren kamen dann IoT, Blockchain und Augmented Reality hinzu, ebenso wie Artificial Intelligence und Deep Learning. Zuletzt lag sein Fokus auf Cloud-Native und Generative AI ebenso wie digitaler und ökologischer Transformation. Neben technologischen Aspekten der Digitalisierung haben für ihn zunehmend auch Fragen zur wirtschaflichen, unternehmerischen und gesellschaftlichen Entwicklung und Umsetzung an Bedeutung gewonnen.

We started out with about 60 people in 2016, grew to 150 people in 2017, 250 in 2018, and 2023 we were about 380 attendees with visitors from all over Europe!
We never did any advertisement outside of community forums.

“Cheap” is something else for everyone, “free” means the same to all.
We want the event to be open for everyone.
